Interesting morning. Was on the bus and saw a groundhog around Dundas and Scarlett. The bus was stopped and I got a good look, it was a ground hog.
Get to work, but decide to walk through Queens Park first, and get to watch a raccoon climb a tree and bed down for the day.

My mother who lives in a small town in NS is amazed at the amount of wildlife in and around Toronto, she calls it the "concrete jungle".

One of the long time Zoo workers Toby used to do a bit on local public television. He called it Urban Safari where he showed people around the zoo. I sort of took up that saying and it really is true. Within Toronto there is a ton of wildlife. At least 3 kinds of Squirrels(only 2 species),Chipmunks,a few species of Bats,Cottontailed Rabbitts,Muskrat,Beaver,Mink,White-tailed Deer,Coyote,Red Fox,Groundhogs, recently Oppossum, many kind of Turtles,a few species of Snakes,Skunks, the occassional Black Bear and assorted rodents. Throw in some Butterflys and interesting insects,in addition to the 300-400 bird species we all search for and I truely believe Urban Safari is a very fitting description.

I remember seeing a pair of coyotes crossing Bloor St. near Prince Edward....unbeleivable...I was speechless. And they were quite casual...stopping at one point to stare at me as I drove towards them. (It was around 3 am).

In the late 80's a deer was trapped inside a restaurant around the Square One ring road (The Olive Garden). While no one knew how it got inside, it escaped by jumping through a large glass window and disappearing. Apparently, quite a few of the patrons had no idea it was galavanting around in the restaurant.
