What a surprise ... out gardening .. heard a shrill loud cry and this bird flew over my head to the backyard. I opened the gate slowly .. camera in hand. He had perched on a trellis.  Managed a couple of frontal shots - which made ID a lot easier (will post if they are good enough).  Then he/she flew onto my watering can and posed nicely for a shot of his back. Then off he went. That's a life bird for us!

We also have a couple of catbirds that sing up a storm and mew a lot too.  They fly around the backyard bushes and are often within  earshot at two of the neighbours'. Hope they are nesting somewhere.

Don't you just love those moments. I was awoken to an unfamiliar sound this morning, scrambled out of bed to see two Great Crested Flycatchers checking out a bird house on our property and being very vocal about it. I don't think it met with their approval  though as they flew away and haven't seen them back since. They are a first for us as well.

A Great Crested Flycatcher showed up in my yard this afternoon (May31), a first for me as well!
He stayed long enough for me to snap a couple of pics and then he was off!
