I decided to give Long Sault a try now that the spring migrants have disbursed and it proved to be a very rewarding morning.
The highlights were:
field sparrows- 6
broad-winged hawk
kestrel
hairy woodpecker
yellow-bellied flycatcher
eastern wood peewee
great crested flycatcher- 2
eastern bluebird
brown thrasher- 4
indigo bunting- 5
red breasted nuthatch
cedar waxwing- 3
bobolink
eastern towhee
rose breasted grosbeak
yellow warbler
common yellowthroat
chestnut sided warbler
pine warbler
blue-winged warbler- 2
2 scarlet tangers were also heard but not seen.
I also stopped in at Soper Creek Park in SE Bowmanville and enjoyed a nice, long look a male mourning warbler as well as several orioles. It's the second
time I've spotted this fellow in the past week.
Overall an excellent day.
Happy birding.
