Hey Irene,
What is pic #3?
Sue & I have been at Rattray a few times lately and if we look closely in the trees in the southwest corner we've seen the Great Blue Heron, Black-Capped Night Heron & Great Egret in there. The Terns, Kingfishers and lots of Cedar Waxwings and Rough-winged Sparrows are flying around in the evening also.

I can't believe you managed that Flicker shot...good going!!
As for Marie Curtis Park, I have nothing to say
I should have followed you home
Great find with the Juvie Night Heron, and King Fisher. The Heron looks really young. Just starting to test out the waters sort to speak.
Always fun birding with you Irene,  But next time we'll just head to your neck of the woods.

hi Vince, #3 is a young black crowned night heron, i would say very young,(under a year) I usually see them when they have the striping but this was neat!
here is a link to some different stages of the BCNH

I'm not so sure the fencing to keep the fish from swimming upstream is a good idea, those sucker fish eat everything :( so I don't know how this will affect the herons and egrets in that part of the marsh, I guess time will tell right?

I couldn't believe my luck ...all i can say is...for the herons...bring them on..and let the birding begin :)

PS they started constructing some form of building over on the Mississauga part of the park..hmmmmm.....
