Any good birding spots around Bruce Peninsula/Tobermory?

Hi,

I will be heading up to the Bruce/Tobermory area for a couple of days and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on birding spots worth going to around or on the way there.
I saw a posting that suggested the following:
DYERS BAY ROAD, a favourite birding road is approx. ( 56 km / 35 miles ) north of Wiarton.
Some other favourite roads are County Rd 170 at Shallow Lake, Ira Lake Rd, Bartley Drive, Lindsay Rd 40 and Crane Lake Rd. All these roads can be located in a Ontario Road Atlas.

Looking at the map there are also some Nature Reserves: Cabot Head Provincial Nature Reserve and Johnston Harbour Pine Tree Point Provincial Nature Reserve, has anyone ever been to either of them?

Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi Andreas,

Thanks, we managed to see the piping plovers in Wasaga about a month ago.
We might try to swing by Sauble beach as well to see what stage they are at now.

Regards,
Mar

The OFO website ( www.ofo.ca ) has lists of hotspots, including articles such as "Birding in Grey - Bruce". http://www.ofo.ca/hotspots/includes/Greybruce.pdf

The Tobermory Dump had a Black Vulture 2 years ago. I dont know if it is still around, but it may be worth a look.

There's a report on ONTBIRDS advising there are 2 Dickcissels on Concession Rd. 8 at just about where it
intersects the J/L Line, on the south side of the road (Lower Bruce).  I've never been myself, but saw some pictures and wish I was going.
