I guess the subject title says it all.  Yep, there were 2 of them at the nyjer feeders this afternoon mixed in with the Finches (Gold and House).  I haven't seen them since that irruption 2 or 3 winters ago and had a 12 to 15 daily.  I recall that was one crappy winter with lots of snow.  Are they letting us know it's going to be another one of those winters?

It is certainly a treat to see them. Your photo captured it well.

They showed up at my feeders in Stouffville over a month ago (on October 26th) in good numbers, initially up to 11 at once, but have been in smaller numbers (1 or 2 at a time) in the last week. I presume that the initial influx of birds have moved on to greener pastures -- or warmer feeders.

However, I have been hosting Common Redpolls beginning on Monday November 29th. The American Goldfinches are also in greater numbers than I expected -- up to 42 at one time on just 2 feeders. I think it portends an interesting winter of birding.

42?!?!  Wow!

We had a half dozen Red Polls late that winter a few years back when the Siskins were here.  I didn't even notice at first the one day...  just saw some birds under the swing, took a couple photos and went inside.  I loaded them up on the computer and then realized they were Common Red Polls.  I hope to see them again this year and be able to appreciate them.  I've never seen them since that time.

Let's hope for an interesting winter of birding.   :D
