Spent a few days in the woods near Perth (45 min N of Kingston). Before hitting the cottage, stopped at Amherst Is on Feb 24. Slow day for owls, only spotted one Saw-Whet and 1 short eared. Saw flocks of snow buntings, 3 red tail hawks, and a harrier. At the feeders, the usual suspects - downy, hairy, tree sparrow, chickadees, nuthatches, jays.
At the cottage, 50+ wild turkeys, including several that I awoke from their roosts in the cedars outside the cottage one morning. Ruffed grouse are common sightings, and also had visits from american gold finches, juncos, both nuthatches, blue jays, hairy wp, countless chickadees, and a barred owl. Very enjoyable.
On the drive back to T.O., decided to try to count the hawks along the highway. While mainly watching 1 side of the highway, counted 52. Majority were red tails, with 1 Sharpie and 1 Coopers thrown in. Also saw 1 Snowy owl and 1 Porcupine. It's a good thing I wasn't driving!
