My kids and I had the thrill of watching an american kestrel devour his lunch on the neighbour's tv antenna this afternoon - nothing like a little first-hand nature lesson! We first noticed him perched on the antenna because he was calling so loudly. He then flew briefly to the top of a nearby fir tree and returned to the antenna clutching a small bird. What was really interesting was realizing that the little bird was already dead (very stiff looking!) and the kestrel must have stashed it in the tree earlier in the day!
