Today at Loafers Lake in Brampton I spotted 4 male and 2 female Ring Necked Ducks. I never thought for the life of me I would see anything other than a few Mallards and maybe a few geese.
And, at Proffessors Lake ( Brampton) I spottted a pair (1 male,1 female) of Hoded Merganser. As well, just as I was packing up my gear to leave a beautiful flight of Swans passed overhead. They were headed from east to west. I am suspecting these may be Tundras, as they had black beaks and, when inspecting closeups of the pics I took I don't see any apparent wing tags on any of the swans.
I am comparing these pics to ones I took at Lasalle Park, and every Trumpeter I saw in flight had the yellow wing tags very obviously visible. As a matter of fact I was shocked at how these wing tags actually "lift" in the air at close to 90 degrees to the bird's wings. I was thinking this must not be very good aerodynamics and must create a lot of drag, not good for long distance trips!
