Did I watch pine grosbeaks today high in the pines of High Park? Seemed like that to me... are they common at this time of year?  If not what else could they be? [oriole-sized, rose coloured, large beaks]

Perhaps an immature male cardinal?

Pine Grosbeaks would be hard to find in Toronto in winter.  In the summer, the event would draw a great deal of attention.

Thanks, your logic is just what I thought... I went back this AM and think they were house finches after all. It's is hard to judge size when the bird is high up in the tree.  Still thought I had a "good" one! :)
