A friend and I went to Cranberry Marsh on Sunday. She didn't expect to see much there on a mid-July afternoon, but the birds were there. We saw the regulars, but here are some of the more interesting sightings.
-5 GBHs, although there was so much flying around there may have been more. I've never seen that many GBHs in one spot
-2 Black-crowned Night-herons, again there may have been more
-a male Yellow Warbler feeding a fledgling
-an American Redstart
-Red-eyed Vireo
-a Turkey Vulture
-Cedar Waxwings everywhere
-a Gray Catbird
-we heard Swamp Sparrow and Marsh Wren
-shorebirds: we identified Kildeer and Lesser Yellowlegs, but wished we had a scope for the faraway birds
-4 Pied-billed Grebes, but again needed a scope to see the other waterfowl
-1 Great Crested Flycatcher
-Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
