This Tern was at Rattray Marsh on July 27th. It's a terrible photo, but maybe someone can still help ID it. I was in Marco Island, Florida recently and the Royal Terns I saw were about the same size as this one. So, I'm thinking maybe Caspian? A black tip to the bill can barely be made out and the forehead shows no white. Are Caspians common around here this time of year?
Thanks,
Joe

I wouldn't say that Caspian terns are "common", but there are certainly Caspians to be found on Lake Ontario in the warm months. There are always a few around. If it was the size of a Royal, it was a Caspian.

At most of the marshes off the lake in the east end will have Caspians all summer. Eg Cranberry Marsh, Corner Marsh etc. Further inland, I can alway find a couple of Caspians at Too Good Pond up in Markham.

There's also usually a few Caspian terns out on the Leslie St. Spit, so they are around in small numbers.
