Hi everyone.
Foggy morning - started out on way to Meadowvale Town Centre bus terminal - sighted a male Hairy Woodpecker at 8:30am, hammering away. He was on a tree at Glen Erin Dr./West end of Lake Aquitaine, just past the tunnel.
Met up with my mom at Riverwood and we were there from 9:20am - 12:20pm. Blue skies and +9c. Attended a walk "Preparing for Winter: How Local Wildlife Adapts" from 10:00 - 11:30am, led by Dave Taylor. First half of this walk was led by Dave then 2nd half became a Heart Healthy Walk led by a gentleman named Mike. Myself and a couple of other people opted out of the 2nd half and went birding instead! Sighted the following:
Black-capped Chickadees - dozens. They are everywhere!
Blue Jays x 2
Cardinals x 2 (males)
Northern Mockingbird x 1
Red-breasted Nuthatches x 8
White-breasted Nuthatches x 3
Apparently I had just missed seeing a Red-bellied Woodpecker! What a bummer as I've never sighted one of these Woodpeckers before.
Lots of squirrels including super cute Red Squirrels and some sort of small Moth.
Coming up on Saturday, November 24th at Riverwood, seminar at MacEwan Field Station "Aboriginal Perspectives: Connecting With Nature". Can't wait! One must register for this seminar.
Riverwood: North side of Burnhamthorpe Rd. across the street from The Credit Woodlands.
On way home, travelling North on Glen Erin Dr. just past Britannia Rd., a Turkey Vulture was circling above at 1:00pm. Perhaps there was some roadkill?
