Made 3 trips out to Frenchman's Bay and saw and photographed the Black Swan on 2 of the occasions. Seems to hang out on the western end of the bay by the inlet to the bay.

It is with a heavy heart that I report that the Black Swan is dead. I spoke with a neighbor who fishes at Frernchman's Bay and he told me that last Wednesday Jan 16th he saw the Swan dead on the shore.

Great find. How rare are they to be around here?

An escapee now and then, so they are not seen very often.

I couldn't find black swan in the Sibley's or Peterson's guide.
Is it a sub-species?
Or just an escapee that occurs every once in a while.

The Black Swan is native to Australia and only occurs here as an escapee.
