We started our day of birding at LaSalle Marina. Highlights were: 19 American Coot, 1 male Wood Duck, 9 Canvasbacks and a singing Carolina Wren. At one point, we heard the local crows cawing, then the Mallards spooked. A Peregine Falcon, flying over the marina, caused all that excitement.
At Spencer Smith Park, in Burlington, we saw a huge raft of Ruddy Ducks near the pier.
At Humber Bay Park West, highlights were: 2 Northern Mockingbirds, 3 more American Coots, 7 Redheads and a pair of Hooded Mergansers. At HBP East, highlights were: 1 male Northern Pintail and 3 Common Mergansers.
Along the highway, we counted 26 Red-tailed Hawks.
