Scouted Sam Smith from 10-1 this morning.  Saw Pied Billed, Horned, Red-Necked, and Western Grebes.  Other high lights included two Black Scoters near the Marina docks, White-Winged Scoter, Greater Scaup, Redhead Duck, and a Shrike - looked like a Loggerhead, but I couldn't make a clear ID - more likely a Northern, I guess.  Otherwise it was the usual suspects amidst a Merganser-fest.

I only saw red-necked grebes on a casual walk today, but got a good close view of a/the shrike and it was definitely an adult northern shrike.

It makes sense the Shrike I saw would be a northern. A loggerhead would be rare at Sam Smith.

The single Pied-Billed and the single Western were both near the Marina docks among the many Red-Necks.  The Horned Grebes  - three that I saw -  were further out on the lake.  I could just barely ID them with my 8x bins.  Someone came along after with a scope and got a better look.
