Nice photos! Is that first one a flicker? Never seen it before.
As for the baby great horned owl - I was there today as well and a resident from one of the surrounding homes was telling me that this one fell out of the nest recently (I was there Friday, and didn't see any babies, but did see one parent going back and forth quite often from one tree to another, and it got upset with us and flapped its big wings at us at one point - perhaps we were too close to a baby?).... anyhow apparently a local resident found it on the ground somewhere in there and picked it up and parked it in a tree... I don't know if the baby can fly quite yet or not, but I saw him today as well - though admittedly, the tree he was in when I saw him was not at all like the one in your photo - the one I saw him in might have been a birch - it was quite white, with tiny slender branches....
Anyhow, maybe he hopped or flew over there, not sure - but the parent was up in a tree about 30ft over us, looking down on all of us watching his/her baby - very protective! Have heard the parents know where he is and continue to feed and defend him.
