Wet Woods May 7

It was fairly quiet in the wet woods today.  Highlights were:

ovenbird
nashville
black and white
yellow
yellow rump
gnatcatcher
warbling vireo
blue headed vireo
red breasted grosbeak
veery
thrasher
eastern wood pewee
mockingbird
white crowned
killdeer
goldfinch


Many spotted a blue-winged in the centre, wet part of the woods, bit I couldn't find it.  No reports of the prairie sticking around.

Slim pickings out at Col. Sam's today too. Less activity than last week. Only a couple of other birders around when I arrived late morning. Did I miss a memo or something?   :?

i've had better luck birding at the Wet Woods at 5 PM than i have in the morning. just wondering if anyone else is trending that way?

I agree that the usual early morning start is less effective this year in the wet woods.  10:30-2 has gotten me the best birds.  I haven't tried 5pm, but have been out twice around 6:30 or 7 until almost sundown.  Very beautiful with the sunsets behind the satellite dishes and the crane, but not very birdy.
