Yellow-billed Cuckoo-High Park

After spending a few hours with the dedicated raptor watchers above the restaurant I wandered over to Colborne Lodge. On the way back, a Yellow-billed Cuckoo landed on the edge of the picnic shelter roof opposite the guard rails that are used as winter bird feeders. It posed for 30 seconds or so, allowing a great look, before flying into a nearby tree. It's back was to me but the yellow/black bill and the rufous wing patches were unmistakable.

That particular area is still one of the few that 'produces' surprises every now and again. The Pines directly over the shelter were 'home' to a Blk. Throated Grey Warbler in winter '05 . The ravene to the east, south of the loop from the shelter is often a fav. of Indigo Buntings in spring and across the street from the shelter, the hillsides down to the pond are a fav. of Scarlet T's. Just to mention a few of the specials, but a good area even in winter sometimes. Now add a YB Cuckoo!
