After trying forever to get a good shot of a Kingfisher I finally managed to get not one, but two of them to pose.

Sometimes you need a little help to get the best shot.

Excellent set. I see patience does in deed pay off. Now perhaps over a glass of wine or something you can tell us all your secret of how you managed to get not one but two of those skittish critters to stay still.   :D

I have tried several different ways of stalking Kingfishers, but apparently luck is a huge factor.  I was fishing with a friend of mine on Rice Lake and we were slowly drifting toward shore, just as we were ready to start the motor to move further out into the lake I noticed a couple of birds in some trees.  I convinced my friend to let the boat drift closer.  They didn't seam concerned until we were almost on the shore, not sure if this is a trick, but it worked.
