This photo is unremarkable from the perspective of composition and technical quality, but the content amazes me:  This was shot today at Sam Smith Park!  I don't like the chicks' chances of survival, but those parents sure had determination to keep trying that long.

Aren't there RNGs in Lake Ontario all winter long? Provided they find open water and fish, I give them a fighting chance.

True, some overwinter in Lake Ontario, but the fact that most fly an extra 1000km or more makes me think it's not the easiest place for a grebe to spend the winter.  I guess they still have another 6-8 weeks to learn to fish and grow some adult feathers before the really cold weather arrives.  Hopefully they make it!
