I'll settle for dreams of Spring!!  Just for fun, I pulled up my ebird stats from last year to see how much longer I have to wait. Here are a few 2013 "firsts"...

March 16 - Red-winged Blackbirds, Northern Flicker
March 21 - Kildeer
March 25 - Amer. Woodcock (my first Spring foray into the Leslie Spit Wet Woods)
April 4 - Tree Swallow
April 9 - Yellow-rumped Warbler, Eastern Pheobe

Since January is almost over, and February is a short month, it's like Spring Migration is practically around the corner!!!   :wink:

Horned Lark should be moving anytime now, and waterfowl, crows, Ring-billed Gulls, robins and other species seem to make significant movements in February.

It sounds like a good time to take some time off of work to welcome the spring arrivals. I'll keep an eye on this site to know where to look for them.

Despite the loss of large branch during the ice storm my cherry tree still contains thousands of berries. The robins have already been around but I'm still waiting for the waxwings and the finches, should be anytime now....but the first indication of spring, for me anyway, is when Lanny puts up the 2014 hummingbird migration map; first gulf coast hummers were sighted on Feb 20 last year.

Note to Meghan: with the Manitoba Maple gone my hummingbird feeder will be much more exposed this year so I expect my first sighting(s) much earlier than in the past.

Note to Meghan: with the Manitoba Maple gone my hummingbird feeder will be much more exposed this year so I expect my first sighting(s) much earlier than in the past.
