This may be old news to some but I was fascinated to read a story about 9 Snowy Owls hitching a ride on a container ship across the ocean, with two of them later reported in the Netherlands! Here's a link to the full story and a photo of 6 of the owls onboard:

In a slightly less dramatic story, two Snowies were found on the Terra Nova FPSO (oil storage vessel), several hundred kilometers offshore. Apparently they were sometimes flying back and forth between that vessel and another rig 50 km away. One of the owls was successfully captured and delivered via helicopter to a nature reserve in Newfoundland. Here's a photo from the Terra Nova:
