Dead Snowy at Sam's

[Molebird]

We were saddened yesterday when we came across a dead snowy at Sam Smith's.  It was in the inside bay at the mouth of the marina.  We suspect a coyote got it on the ice.  Could it be one of the snowys reported recently ?

Signs of spring, grackles, robins, RWBB.  

Also a lone ring necked duck.

Sad indeed. What a beautiful bird to watch in the backdrop of snow.

Are you sure it was an owl? There was a dead swan in that area last weekend (on the north side).

It seemed like a healthy bird, eating well.  It did appear a bit overconfident of its place at the top of the food chain though, so that could have been its undoing.

False alarm I think. Had a quick visit to Sam's today - the Snowy was in one of her usual spots. She didn't budge when a marina worker wandered out onto the opposite dock, and he did not appear to notice her.  -kris

Yes, I saw her on top of the pole at Whimbrel Point at dusk this evening.  There where 2 owls in the area, so it's still possible that we've lost one.
