Early this afternoon, I saw a juvenile Broad-winged Hawk sitting in a tree on the north side of the Owl Woods. The bird was preening almost constantly, flaring its tail, and from the ragged condition of the tail, it looked to be molting. This is the first time I've seen a Broad-winged roosting on the Spit.
Down to the west of the Lighthouse, there was a single Eastern Meadowlark, right along the shoreline, and a pair of Field Sparrows. Off the point, were six Common Loons, with a seventh off Pipit Point. Over the course of the day, I saw many warblers, but they all turned out to be Yellow-rumps with the exception of a single Palm in the Wet Woods.
