Not a bird in fact, but the most wonderful and welcome sight - a MONARCH..........a very fresh male gorging on a milkweed blossom in one of the many healthy patches in the fields of The Spit. This is the first one I have seen anywhere this year - a catastrophe in the making perhaps? No sign of a honey bee anywhere sadly.

The resident TTP Trumpeter swan pair and 6 very healthy cygnets are around in various locations. The female adult was rescued by TWC a few weeks ago with a fish hook thru her tongue (line dangling), treated overnight and returned in fine form to be greeted by a thrilled male who hadn't let the young ones get more than 10" from him while she was gone. Much trumpeting and flapping of wings, a few adult flybyes in big circles leaving the cygnets tightly huddled in a grey blob in the middle of Cell 2. The whole reunion was quite wonderful to witness, and once everyone settled down, they swam off in their usual formation as tho' nothing had happened.

No sign of any ravens over the past few weeks.

Happy Canada Day!
