All things considered it's been pretty good here the past few days; I've seen both red and white breasted nuthatches, house finches, downies, blue jays, cardinals, robins, chickadees, kinglets, starlings and a few warblers(?) that I didn't recognize but, except for one white crowned sparrow that didn't stay, I haven't seen any boreal sparrows in my back yard this fall...and no hummers since early Sept. Boo Hoo!

Wow, I just heard an Oriole - well, ok, so it was my bird clock. :)

and for the record, I was in Toronto Botanical Gardens two days ago and there was a photographer waiting for hummingbirds in the herb garden, and guess what? -  after a few minutes one actually showed up! My home feeder is still up; I'll leave it out until the first frost.

I just came back from Downsview Park after a morning stroll; saw a whole bunch of both kinds. It is not exactly your backyard - but they are here in Toronto area for sure.

I was there last Monday and the hawks were putting on quite a show! Unfortunately I wasn't ready when one of them went after a great blue heron who(?) also gave me some good photo-ops after the hawk gave up the chase. I also saw several very fresh monarchs. It's a very nice park and maybe this year it will give me a chance to see a snowy owl. Have you checked out the south end of Earl Bales (lower park)? It's another place where the hawk watching can be very good.
