I flushed a Woodcock not 5 minutes in to a ramble this afternoon out The Spit, watched it vanish and then appear again along the same path and finally head deep into the baselands. Thanks to a heads up from M and J I headed off to look at a beautiful immature Tundra Swan with its bright pink bill. ML joined me and while we were out staring at the swan we saw 7 Caspian Terns hunkered down in the rocks behind a big log, facing into the wind. Lots of ducks in Bay D including a Pintail, many Hooded and 2 Common Mergansers and Green-winged Teal. The clouds cleared off, the sun and blue skies made for a wonderful afternoon with a few unexpected birds as a fine bonus.
