I joined in on the Rouge Park bird count this past weekend. Our group covered the area north of Steeles and much to our surprise we came across a flock of 40 Snow Buntings looking for food on a farmers field near Reesor Rd and Steeles. This was the first time I has seen Snow Buntings and unless someone else in our group has seen them I may have totally missed them. They camouflage themselves very well in a snow covered field as they stay close to the valleys of the turned over ground and I only saw their head bobbing up at a distance. Every once in a while they would do their aerial display which I will now keep a lookout for.
I have tried looking for them again over the past 2 days hoping for a good picture but so far have not found them. Anyone coming up to this area should keep an eye out for them.
