I was home sick  when I saw the Ontbird post for the Glossy Ibis. I could not pass up the opportunity, I grabbed my three-year old daughter and headed over to the Sobey's pond in Whitby. It briefly popped out of  the thick reeds for a few moments,....a beautiful bird and lifer for me. Not the greatest pics but good enough for me.

Baby sitting and birding - all at the same time. Nice; much better than what I could get the other day in Milton.

Nice job Gary.  I'd be happy with the shots as it's in a somewhat natural setting.  I got my 'Lifer' Glossy Ibis just as the remnants of Hurricane Sandy were hitting the province back in 2012.  Quite a time!

Nice pic, yeah I would have loved to go but I was stuck at work due to month end activities.  Plus I did get my lifer Glossy Ibis in Milton (same place as Dinu) ..but better pics would have been great for sure.  Maybe it'll stick around and be refound at some point.

A few of us lucky birders saw the Ibis at 8:10am this morning as it flew in over Sobey's Pond from the west and then continued south-east in the direction of the Whitby Harbour.  Ten or so minutes later it was reported seen flying east over Thickson Road South and possibly landing in Corbett Creek (down at the bottom end of the road that the entrance to Thickson's Woods is on).  It may likely be staying in that area.

It showed up at the pond again today- first report of sighting was from around noon. When I arrived there at 4 the bird was walking around the pond feeding. It stayed there till about 5:45 when it flew towards Lynde Shore.

I'm glad everyone who could saw this beautiful bird, not a normal bird for the East Toronto area.
