Hi,

Please help me identify the following birds. thank you so much. I think the top two photos are Lesser Yellowlegs, followed by a Least Sandpiper and Eastern Wood Pewee.

1-2. Looks more like Greater Yellowlegs to me, with the long, slightly upturned bill and streaking on sides.
3. Agree, Least Sandpiper.
4. One of the Empidonax flycatchers, I believe.

I think the first bird is a good candidate for Greater, with the heavier markings underneath and the slightly longer upturned bill, but I think the second photo of the group looks more like Lessers. They seem to have cleaner bellies, but mostly I think it's just that their bills are too short. Proportionately, the bills of Lessers are approx. the width of their heads, and the bills of Greaters are a little longer than the width of their heads. I agree with Least Sandpiper; that short droopy bill helps to distinguish it from Semipalmated (it also has yellow legs vs the black of Semipalmated but it's tough to tell the colour in this photo because of the shadows). Flycatchers are tough to identify unless you hear them singing. If I had to hazard a guess it would be Least, because of the eye ring and shortish primaries, but no way to be sure!  -kris
