The Wet Woods/Baselands - that incredible natural wild 27 acres of bird filled wonder was alive with song and warblers, orioles, vireos and every other kind of Spring migrant today. In the open field to the South, across the intersecting path, Savannah Sparrows and Bobolinks enjoying the 'grasslands'. Further out in the mud flats of Bay D and Cell 1 - shorebirds of many species. A flock of Dunlin - perhaps 15 flying, calling, landing to probe for food, all sorts of Least SP, Semi-palmated Sandpipers and 5 or 6 Semi-palmated Plovers. 2 Yellowlegs - too far off to know whether they were lesser or greater. Many Spotted SP's, 6 Bonapartes Gulls keeping 1 gorgeous Ruddy Turnstone company near a gnarly old log. On my way off the Bobolinks had moved into the tall trees in the middle of the dogwoods in the centre of the Wet Woods which isn't wet at all in fact. No wellies needed to roam thru this wilderness treasure while we still can. What a fine day! Happy Long Weekend.
