A female Merlin was a new addition to my 'workplace window' list today. I spotted her at 12:30pm perched on the edge of a third floor roof of an industrial building opposite mine. She was facing away from the street and I went outside for a better look.
She seemed to be cleaning her talons at times. The usual gregarious group of Starlings and House Sparrows were nowhere to be seen. The Merlin didn't leave until 2:00pm. The aforementioned Starlings and House Sparrows re-appeared within minutes.
The building is on the west side of Symington just north of the railroad bridge, which is north of Dupont.
