After the Bird Festival at Sam Smith Park yesterday, I went back to do a bit of birding and look for the Bobolink that had been spotted earlier in the day.  Birding was pretty quiet, but I did find the Bobolink.  He wasn't too skittish, but he sure wasn't much for posing:

He was also singing regularly:

I've always had a soft spot for these guys with their backwards plumage and jumbled song.  Sad they're such a rare sight these days.
This Song Sparrow could definitely give the Bobolink a few pointers on posing:

A few come through every year (fewer each year [DISAPPOINTED FACE]) but I hadn't seen one for several years.

I've had really good luck in recent years seeing them from the roads that surround Glen Major Forest and Walker's Woods in Durham Region. There are a lot of hay farmers in that area.

Nice. During a lull in Whimbrel watching Saturday morning, I was looking for the Bobolink in the meadow area just west of the Whimbrel point. Unfortunately couldn't find it.

He moved around a lot and stayed low in the grass most of the time.  You pretty much had to see him fly or hear him call.  I had passed him originally, and just caught a glimpse of something different out of the corner of my eye.
