I'll be in Washington, DC this weekend. I won't have a vehicle. Can anyone point out some good, accessible spots? I'm hoping to see a Carolina Chickadee, at the very least.

"Birders World" magazine has a feature called Hotspots. Birders submit their favourite local spots to go birding. Each spot gives directions to the area and what you could see there. The archives' #6 spot is for Washington, DC. I hope this helps. Here is the magazine's URL: http://www.birdersworld.com/brd/

A belated thanks for the info. I'm not sure how I missed your post at the time but I did somehow. Anyway, the link you sent will be a great help for future trips.

We just got back from DC. We didn't have a lot of time for birding, but did get a chance to have our first glimpse of black vultures, a tufted titmouse, and an orchard oriole.
