When it rains, it pours. After observing my first Whimbrels at Presqu'ile the day before, a few of us was lucky to observe and photograph 60+ Whimbrels from relatively close distance at Sam Smith on Monday. The spectacle lasted for about 45 minutes for me before they took off in a flash. After flying around the park a few times they finally departed. And then the sun came out. One thing I would like to mention was how some dedicated Whimbrel watchers formed a protective barrier around where the birds were resting. They urged un-leashed dog owners to be mindful of these rare find. If it weren't for them, I didn't think I would've the chance to see these resting birds two hours after they were first reported. Kudos to these dedicated individuals.

Nice! You don't get that kind of view very often!
