I spotted a Winter Wren in Taylor Creek Park today. I assume it is somewhat rare as there were only 7 reported in Ontario during the Great Backyard Bird Count. Its my second sighting this winter - both times it was flitting in and out of holes along the banks of the creek.
I also witnessed some exciting hawk activity in by backyard last week. I saw a small hawk swoop by my window followed a few seconds later, by a large hawk that landed in a tree at the end of my yard. I was able to get my binoculars and see it clearly. After a few minutes it took off and the smaller hawk came into view again - chasing the larger one until they were both out of sight. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make a positive ID.
