I've seen lots of Garter snakes this year and have been hoping to find a Ribbonsnake but no luck yet. Today I spooked this snake. It was over a foot long and at the largest point bigger in diameter than one of the old primer print pencils. I only got some partial shots before it moved away into a goldenrod thicket.

I'm hoping it's a Dekay's Brownsnake but I've been told that there are also some brown tone garter snakes so I'm looking for someone with a bit of experience to tell me what it was. The back pattern was quite distinctive but I didn't get to see its underside (the blurry photo of the head shows a pale colour under the throat)

I'll be hoping to see it again to get better photos but I'm not going to count on it.
