Yesterday while on the boardwalk at Woodbine Park, we saw an interesting bird fly over. It was light brown, with white under the wings, and it was flying like a heron (slow flapping, no gliding). About the size of a smallish hawk. Didn't see the face. Could this have been a Bittern? Probably wishful thinking, but I thought I'd get your opinion on the matter.

My guess would be Black Crowned Night Heron, but I'm not an expert.

American Bitterns are not common in Toronto, but Black-crowned Night-Herons are a common sight along the waterfront. First year birds (born last year) are still brown at this time of year.
