Spring arrivals

With the spring-like temperatures today I saw the first Common Grackle and Red-winged Blackbird for the season in Erieau.

Spotted 2 grackles this evening in Milton...  can't miss that  V shaped tail..

Big time activity in the trees, like the street came to life..  


Many Am Crows around the last few days as well..

This week about 1000 Tundra Swans have been hanging around on the fields along Erieau Rd.

Other recent spring arrivals are Turkey Vulture, Brown-headed Cowbird, Killdeer and American Robin while Snow Buntings, Rough-leggerd Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks and Horned Larks seem to largely have moved on northwards.

I also have seen some Common Redpolls and American Tree Sparrows moving through.

I was out and about today, driving some rural roads up the escarpment and South of town..

I found 2 turkey vultures up top.  I found a large group of Grackles and Redwinged black birds on Bell school line at Britannia

One Horned lark further south of the little airport.

New arrivals today were a Forster's Tern (my first ever, thought i was a Common Tern first, but after studying the literature the light-colored upper wings revealed it as a Forster's Tern which is also an earlier migrant), 3 Tree Swallows, lots of Bonaparte's Gulls (a few had gotten their dark hood), an Eastern Phoebe and a House Finch. Yesterday I saw a Horned Grebe.

Weird seeing a Tern and Swallows among the ice left in Rondeau Bay (most of the ice disappeared overnight though) as I think of them as summer birds.

Today and yesterday I have seen a Brown Thrasher in Erieau. Yesterday I also saw a Brown Creeper and a Hermit Thrush, which (or another one) I found dead this morning  :cry:

The last week I also found two new spieces for me, a Pine Siskin in Chatham and a Tufted Titmouse at the feeder at Ojibway Nature Centre, Windsor.

New to our backyard  (Brampton) yesterday a duck, female mallard sunning herself on the deck.
Today, a small hawk (maybe sharp-shinned) down on the ground enjoying its "kill". Now, if we only knew how to post, my husband could show off his pic and video.
Wonder what tomorrow will bring.

I have 2-3 Fox Sparrows scratching around on the ground below our feeders this morning.

Hi

 Bluebirds, Tree Swallows , Meadowlarks and the usual spring migrants are back in the Guelph area.

A pair of Purple Martins have arrived at a Martin box and will hopefully be nesting. Other seasonal firsts were 1 Barn Swallow, 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler, 5 Chipping Sparrows and 1 Spotted Sandpiper.

Morning..

Yesterday spotted 2 Tree swallows behind the house

This morning a barn swallow zipped over our house.

It is quite noisy out there..

my first white throated sparrows have just arrived at my feeder today hopefully in the nexts few weeks more will arrive along with the kinglets

Today I saw a White-eyed Vireo (my first ever) and a Least Flycatcher. Other arrivals seen the last week is Common Yellowthroat, Blue-headed Vireo and Grey Catbird.

Yesterday a Lincoln's Sparrow visited here in Erieau.

Also Blue-winged Warbler and Nashville Warbler at Kopegaron Woods Conservation Area just west of Wheatley.
