Two new species in Cell Two today: Stilt Sandpiper and Pectoral Sandpiper. Also five Lesser Yellowlegs and lots of peeps. The smallest pond has now been completely filled in and the others have been further drained. Looks like they are now beginning to fill the ponds with gravel, which I believe is meant to "cap" the toxic sludge at the bottom. Unfortunately this might mean that the mud with all the yummy food will eventually be covered up and the shorebirds may lose interest. Meanwhile, the birds are still enjoying the ponds at the farthest (southern) end of Cell Two. I also noticed that the red pedestrian bridge has finally been reconnected. Oh and happy to report 5 Monarchs!
