I watched 3 Soras poking around on the lily pads at Reesor Pond South yesterday in the early morning heat. Pied-billed grebes, perhaps 4 or 5, a few young wood ducks, and after a long wait continually scanning the far shoreline, a Common Gallinule came into view and moved along the edge. Heard a raven, red-tailed hawk, peewee, hairy and watched many jays go by. Lots of other birds around - crows, goldfinch, catbird, phoebe, RWBB. Resident pair of Trumpeter swans as well and of course the mallards.

It was quite a surprise while I was standing in the hot sun to suddenly hear the loud roar of a lion ! The zoo is just to the south of the pond which is on Reesor Road north of Old Finch. Beware of the bright yellow Buffalobur Nightshade plant on the dusty dry little parking area - poison, prickly and nasty, but pretty.

Nice report!  Thank you.  Yeah I've been there many times when I suddenly heard the lion roar.  Not too many birding spots in Toronto that give you that kind of soundtrack  :D

I saw many of the same birds late yesterday afternoon and just came back from there now.  A belted Kingfisher came by today to have look.  Even a couple of deer decide to take a short cut across the pond.
