This little guy collided with my kitchen sliding door and fell onto its back.  After a few minutes it was able to fly away.  It was about 2 inches in length, very distinct yellow strip on head and grey plumage with some green hue.  I was not able to take a photo.  Anyone know what this was?  I have spotted about 18 species of birds in my yard over the years.

Yes, sounds like it.
FYI, Goldcrest is the European species, Regulus regulus. Our very similar Golden-crowned Kinglet is Regulus satrapa.
