Just got back from Cuba last week.  I only went out birding one day and the weather was not very co-operative, off and on rain all morning.  I was still very happy with the variety of birds I saw, I wish I could have taken more pictures, but I was very worried about getting my camera too wet.

Striped Tanager (Western Spindalis)

Striped Tanager (Western Spindalis)

Yellow Crowned Night Heron

Juvenile Night Heron

Little Blue Heron

Green Heron

Green Emerald

Cuban Tody

Cuban Pygmy Owl

Cuban Lizard Cukoo

Cuban Green Woodpecker

Black-necked Stilt

I know this is not a bird, but it does fly similar to a bird, unfortunately I do not know what kind of bat it is.
I am going to guess it is a Cuban Cave Bat

Sometimes you need a little help to get the best shot.

Very nice set.. quite a few endemics in one day..
I am planning on going to Cuba next year, hopefully there won't be a huge influx of visitors with the proposed increase in flights from the US.

I never expected to see any owls, but when my wife told our guide how I had a collection of owl pictures he said he thought he could find one.  Then he actually went and found a pair.
The Emerald hummingbird was right outside the room at our resort, the last time we visited I took a hummingbird feeder and left it there with some nectar mix.  The housekeeper we had has been filling it up, so this time I took another feeder and some more syrup mix.

The last 3 times we have stayed at the Memories Holguin Beach Resort, it used to be a Riu until Memories bought it at the end of 2014. Most of the birds we saw off the resort were between Guardalavaca and Banes.
