Help identifying bird by song - South Humber River

Hello, I'm not a newbie birder and was hoping you could assist in identifying a bird that I couldn't really see clearly this morning in South Humber River. It was black with red markings (not a redwing blackbird of which there were several in Humber River Marshes today) as well as three downy woodpeckers south of the Old Mill.
I was, however, able to record its song and downloaded it to Soundcloud at this link:

That's a male Northern Cardinal singing. Perhaps there were shadows of branches on the bird that made him look dark.
