Around 2:30 this afternoon, a pair of Eastern Bluebirds, male and female, were feeding in the Baselands just behind the parking lot. They would light on a grass stalk or shrub and then throw themselves to the ground. Quite a few spiders and other insects were out already, perhaps they were eating them. I also saw a Cooper's Hawk at the other end of the Baselands, one can only hope the Bluebirds kept their distance.
I arrived around 7:30 and over the course of the morning saw close to 400 Tundra Swans flying over the Spit. I didn't have to look for them because each time they announced themselves with that wonderful high-up music they make. The flocks ranged in size from eight birds to more than 40.
