A hardy band of twenty Toronto Field Naturalists, led by Doug Paton, braved the cold winds today to explore Kew Beach and Ashbridge's Bay. Many species were observed along the lake, in the bay and at the feeders although the Wood Ducks were not found.
The highlight of a great morning of birding came near the end of the walk as a male Harlequin Duck was spotted just west of Kew Gardens. It was very active, diving in the big waves quite close to the shoreline.
