So, while all the smarter birders go south to warmer spots, I traveled to the Northwest Territories last week (for work) and was able to spend a few hours birding in Yellowknife. I added 5 to my life list in the process. The birds were vocal and not too shy of people so had some amazing looks at Willow Ptarmigan and Black-billed Magpie along the way. The lighting was not ideal as there is so little daylight and the sun was under for my time but I did get some good shots, sometimes up past my knees in the snow to get the angle.

Got to admire your effort - and some nice photos of hardy local birds.

Thanks. I handle the cold better than my camera. The batteries die out quick at -30, kept the spare in my pocket to keep it warm. The ravens there are an impressive size and as free as our pigeons in their behavior.
