Duffins Creek at Grand Valley Park in Pickering (south of railway line)
has a trail close to the creek and one higher up as well. The upper trail
was popular with peckerheads. At least three Hairy woodpeckers, four Flicker
hanging around together, and two Pileated also using the buddy system.
Back and forth. Easy to see them but not so easy to photograph them.
Make a move and they spook. If I stay absolutely still against a tree trunk
they are oblivious to me. Still and quiet is the plan. Let them come to me.
Shucks, even that doesn't work. I'm no good at this!
There's a squirrel at my feet. Staring up at me. "want do you want?"
"Came to laugh, I suppose". Everyone is a critic.

Good question. I was looking up rather steeply and I didn't what to move and spook it.
I guess it might have been about 15 meters. Not a lot of light at the time so I needed
to shoot wide open (f4) and dial in ISO 800, which I am loath to do when I know I will
need to crop. When using 200mm it is ALWAYS necessary to crop so I'm heavily into
loathing.

Thanks for the question.
