Even now in early autumn, before the transformation has begun, I approach a pond and hear 'plonk' and 'kerplunk' as wet backs justify their moniker.
Amphibians live on that margin between water and terra firma, drawn to one and retreat to the other. Sometimes though, I do get a chance to lay some short glass
beside them and they are just too well established to muster a retreat. Whether Green, or Leopard when the temperature is lower frogs become less hot and bothered.
